The other day I received a card in the mail.
Like an actual greeting card, in an envelope that was mailed to me! It was tucked amongst the bills and junk mail that quickly went in the garbage (why do they even waste the money?!) The return address was from someone I had not spoke to in along time.
They wanted to reconnect. (Which is so wonderful)!
But....Wait. What? You want to reconnect and don't email? Text? Call? Video chat? Facebook messenger? What day and age are we living in? When was the last time I sent a card? Or a letter??? Curious!
I stared at that card, with its little flowers on it, and it made me smile. It made me feel good receiving that card. I mean, someone had to buy the card. Write in the card. Address and then mail the card. All so they could just say hi.
It got me thinking, maybe this card had superpowers. I wasn't having a bad day, but this card definitely brightened it up. It gave me some warm fuzzies, put a little smile on face.
Wait..maybe the person who sent it had super powers. Then I thought that if they had them, I wanted them, because having superpowers would be AWESOME!
Then it hit me. I knew the superpower. The best thing? We all had it! (exciting stuff)! It was nothing new, it was just that some of us had forgotten how to use it!
Want to know what it is?
We have this amazing ability to make people feel a certain way. (Gasp!)
I know right?! Give this some thought, bare with me for a second. Words can crush, they can tear us apart right? I mean in one foul swoop, you could completely obliterate someone's day. Make tem feel small, worthless, unnecessary.
If your words have that power to hurt, then the theory should be that they can raise people up? Right? I mean, couldn't you use to words to tell someone they matter, they are outstanding, beautiful, special and valued? We have this amazing gift, that our interactions with people can do positive or negative things to them.
When was the last time you smiled at a stranger? Or said hi to your neighbor? Or sent your loved one a quick message telling them that they are amazing? I can say that I don't do this enough.
But what an amazing power that is, to be able to make someone feel like they are the most important person in the world. Just think, if all of our words were used for good, how freaking fabulous we would all feel.
So I throw down a challenge to you! Send a text right now, to someone you know and tell them something nice. Why are they important to do? What is something they are good at? Grab a card (maybe at Crab Terror Island....man, that's a shameless plug), and send someone a quick little note to say you are thinking about them.
It feels good to do good, and feels amazing when someone does something good for you!
